Targeted Audience: -Community Oversight Boards -Criminal Justice/Criminology Studies -Activist/Advocate -Faith-Based Organization Leader -System-Impacted -Sworn Law Enforcement -Non-Sworn Law Enforcement Professionals -Retired Law Enforcement Professionals Description goals: This interactive two-part workshop prepares participants to hold internal and external conversations on bridging the communication gap between the community and law enforcement. This workshop has two key emphases: Utilize critical thinking techniques to bridge the gap between police departments and the communities they serve. Utilize structures such as community oversight boards to create community and police connections. The Bridging the Gap workshop focuses on compassion, community, respect, trust, and unity. Learning objectives This workshop was created to understand better how to utilize critical thinking to enhance communication and trust between law enforcement and its community. By attending this workshop, participants will be able to -Distinguish between the different types of biases we hold and describe how they impact our decision-making -Utilize critical thinking techniques to impact decision-making -Examine communication gaps between community and police departments.
